The Bridal Gown
Choosing a wedding dress that will look and feel absolutely right on the day is one of the most important and enjoyable decisions the bride must make during the run-up to the ceremony.
There are a wide variety of styles to choose from, from a simple elegant silk dress that could be worn again for special occasions, hand painted or hand embroidered designs in the ‘traditional style’ of lace and frills, with or without a train.
You may opt for a traditional white dress or you may find ivory, cream oyster or a pastel shade more becoming. Strong colours are also becoming very popular for the wedding dress, as are patterned dresses. The old saying goes:
Marry in white, you’ve chosen all right;
Married in blue, you love will stay true;
Married in pink, of you he will think;
Married in brown, you’ll stay out of town;
Married in black, you’ll wish yourself back.
Its well worth doing plenty of window shopping and attending wedding fayres, before deciding if to buy a dress, hire or have one individually designed and made. When planning or buying a dress be prepared to give yourself time. Wear or take with you shoes with the heel height you plan to be wearing for your wedding and wear a good fitting bra and underwear in white. Take someone along with you whose judgments you value – your mother perhaps, the chief bridesmaid or a close friend. With the dress chosen, you can search for a veil and head dress, unless you are having fresh flowers or a hat an accessories to suit. Ideally these should be chosen and bought from the same shop so you can look in a mirror and see the outfit together as a whole picture.
