Honeymoons
Traditionally a Honeymoon is the holiday of a lifetime. This period of a week, fortnight or longer symbolises the beginning of a couple’s life together, and as such, the desire to make their honeymoon one to remember will no doubt make it the most expensive holiday they have yet bought.
The extra costs tend to go on long-haul destinations, exotic locations, as well as business class seats, bridal suites, champagne, sunset cruises and a whole lot of other extras the couple may not have considered before. It should be emphasised that throwing money at a honeymoon is no guarantee of making it a success.
The ever-increasing choice of destinations facing honeymooners means the main problem for them will be choosing the ideal one. It is essential therefore for the couple to sit down and make a list of what they are looking for in a honeymoon before booking. Five basic questions that need to be considered are
-
How long will the honeymoon be?
-
What is the absolute maximum budget?
-
Excitement or peace and quiet?
-
Culture or natural wonders?
-
Sultry hot beaches or winter romance?
A degree of compromise will always be necessary to accommodate each of the partner’s likes/dislikes. For instance would you both be happy spending the whole 2 weeks virtually alone on a near deserted island or would you be happier with a bit more culture or activity.
The length of the honeymoon will rule out certain destinations for example, Australia is only worth considering for honeymoons lasting longer that a fortnight. Also for long-haul destinations with a flight of over 10 hours it is wise to plan the departure for a couple of days after the wedding in order to rest for the journey.
Obviously the time of year you get married will also have a major bearing on your destination, what a horror it would be to arrive at your paradise destination only to find it is the middle of the monsoon season!
Finally once you have decided on your destination don’t leave it until the last minute to book especially for the more exotic locations you don’t wont to be disappointed and you may need vaccinations, visas etc.
