Religious Wedding Service
There are many reasons for wanting to marry in a religious service. Amongst the most important are that you see your whole marriage as a spiritual commitment to your partner, as well as an emotional and physical one and that your marriage would be ‘incomplete’ or that something would be ‘missing’ without the blessing of God.
If you want a religious service and do not attend any religious group or church, the first thing to do is to get in touch with the minister or leader whose contact details can usually be found on a board outside the building where you want to marry. Alternatively, ask your families if they have links with a particular church, group or minister and approach them. Different regulations, fees and preparation requirements apply depending on whom you ask and the service itself will vary. Also, whilst some ministers will agree to perform a wedding for divorced people some will not, but you can expect to be treated with respect and may be directed elsewhere. If not there is no reason why you should not try somewhere else yourself.
If you are marrying abroad or away from may of your family and friends you may like to consider a Marriage Blessing service on your return.
Most ministers would want to talk with you and your partner about how your relationship works and the ways in which you can help each other to marriage. Some will do this privately; others will offer groups of couples the chance to prepare together. Also, ministers will be prepared to offer assistance after the wedding, if it is needed.
Your wedding is the first day of what we all hope and pray will be a long and happy marriage.
