The date and day of the wedding

Saturday appears to be the traditional day for weddings, but more and more couples are considering Sunday and mid week, due to the availability of venue points and the fact that many wedding services offer discounts for Sunday and mid-week weddings.

They are also more relaxed occasions since Saturday is also traditionally shopping day and many find themselves rushing around to do the shopping prior to attending the wedding.

Although as I said the majority of couples marry on Saturday, the old saying goes:

Monday for health,

Tuesday for wealth,

Wednesday, the best day of all.

Thursday for loses,

Friday for crosses,

Saturday, no luck at all.

Any Friday that falls on a 13th is considered to be a particular unlucky day to get married.

The majority of weddings take place between May and September due to the good weather, but here once again many couples consider out of season weddings to take advantage of discounts and more easy availability of venue points.

Myth has it that:

Summer weddings are considered fortunate,

But the ‘best’ season for weddings is between Harvest and Christmas.

When supplies for the wedding feast are most plentiful.

Married when the year is new, he’ll be loving, kind and true.

When February birds do mate, you wed nor dread your fate.

If you wed when March winds blow, joy and sorrow both you’ll know.

Marry in April when you can, Joy for Maiden and for Man.

Marry in the month of May, and you’ll surely rue the day.

Marry in June roses grow, over land and sea you’ll go.

Those who wed in July do wed, must labour for their daily bread.

Whoever wed in August be, many a change is sure to see.

Marry in September’s shine your living will be rich and fine.

If in October you do marry, love will come but riches tarry.

If you wed in bleak November, only joy will come remember.

When December showers fall fast, marry and true love will last.

Queen Victoria was said to have banned her children from marrying in May.

Lent has always been thought of as an inappropriate time to get married

Marry in lent, live to repent.
