The Groom’s Attire

The bridegroom sets the style of dress for all male helpers and guests. The style largely preferred by grooms is the morning suit unless he is Scottish, looks good in white or prefers the Spanish look. Some grooms, however do opt for a good quality dress suit. Much depends on the style of the ceremony and reception, how mush is being spent and also on how the groom sees himself.

Full morning dress comprises of a black morning coat teamed with striped trousers and grey waistcoat or the all grey morning tails three-piece known as ‘Ascot’. Blue and brown morning suits with plain or striped blue waistcoats are also becoming popular. Often it is only when the groom has hired or bought his suit does he usually get around to ‘thinking colour’. Here the best chance for a dash of colour comes with ties, cravats and waistcoats. Carefully chosen, these not only look extremely smart in themselves but compliment the dignity of the suit.

Paisley, in a multitude of designs and colourways, has proved popular, with shades of grey rating highest. Remember, however that the more vivid or outrageous your choice, the greater is the potential for a clash with the bride’s or bridesmaids colour. Always liase with the bride on her colour scheme – it makes for better photographs also remember that morning suits are timeless, whilst ordinary suits are not and can come to look very dated in wedding photographs.
