The Wedding Cake
Much of the ceremony surrounding a wedding is based on age-old custom and superstition – the wedding cake represents fertility and it was vital for the bride and groom to cut the first slice to ensure the speedy arrival of the first child.
Today the wedding cake is a focal point of the reception, so order it in plenty of time to avoid disappointment. Many cakes today are creative masterpieces with hand made flowers and decorations you cannot believe are not real.
The colours can co-ordinate with the rest of the wedding and it is helpful for the cake maker to know the exact colours of bouquets and bridesmaids dresses so that they blend nicely with the cake in wedding pictures.
The size and style of the cake is up to you but the cake maker will be able to advise what size is required for the number of guests you are having, but remember you may also wish to send small portions of your cake to friends and relatives who cannot attend, so take this into account when choosing the size.
Chocolate cakes are very popular as are individual fairy cakes designed to make a dramatic appearance.
